Franz Anton von Schmöger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Anton Schmöger , since 1744 Edler von Schmöger , lord of Adelzhausen (born January 29, 1696 in Ziemetshausen , † 1773 in Friedberg ) was a curb-Bavarian secret councilor, governor and curator of Wertingen and Friedberg, as well as general provisions director who was raised to the nobility .

Life

former official seat in Friedberg

Franz Anton von Schmöger was the son of the master baker from Ziemetshausen Georg Schmöger (born March 17, 1651 in Ziemetshausen, † January 14, 1722 in Friedberg) and Susanna born. Bars. The family originally came from Meiningen .

The trained lawyer had taken over the offices of the Bavarian curator and governor in Wertingen before he was transferred to Friedberg. There he moved into the electoral toll and salt office , today the old school building (Friedberg) . His coat of arms above the door still reminds of the former owner. In 1743 he took over the function of imperial and royal French admodiateur .

On April 20, 1744, he was awarded the nobility diploma by Emperor Charles VII in Frankfurt am Main . Associated with this was the ability to own fiefdom . The electoral Bavarian tender for the same took place on April 29, 1746. According to the Hofmark Conscription of 1752, he was the landlord of the Hofmark Adelzhausen and has since called himself from Schmöger to Adelzhausen .

embezzlement

In 1758/59 von Schmöger, as general provisions director, was the main supplier of the general admodiation . Together with his son-in-law von Massenhausen, he was responsible for openly misappropriating the delivery of provisions. He was accused of leasing the army supplies to the minimum bidders who delivered bad goods at high prices, with the advance war money disappearing. Both were later dubbed Reich cheaters.

The 222-page long investigation report published by the Swabian District Council and Higher War Commission under Johann Christoph von Oetinger in 1762 came to the conclusion that von Schmöger could not deny his admitted insufficiency and that he had to bear the resulting consequences himself. Furthermore, he and his son-in-law are solely responsible for the lack of accounting and the sums of money received by both parties, and thus the accusation is completely justified.

The legal disputes with the tax authorities and claims of his creditors dragged on for years after his death. In 1777, on the orders of the electoral district and commission court, Schmöger's estate in Friedberg consisting of real estate and furniture was auctioned. In 1807 there was a settlement between his heirs and creditors.
