Franz Böning (born September 7, 1896 in Heidelberg ; † August 20, 1972 there ) was a German politician ( KPD ).

Life and work

Böning learned the metalworking trade and later worked as a union secretary. He was the younger brother of the Baden KPD member of the state parliament Hermann Böning (1894-1939). Böning belonged to the KPD during the Weimar Republic .

After the National Socialists came to power, Böning was arrested along with other KPD functionaries on March 4, 1933. He was temporarily detained for political reasons. From August 28, 1944 to September 11, 1944, he was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp in connection with the Gewitter campaign .

As early as April 1945, he and other Heidelberg communists were involved in preparations for the re-establishment of the KPD there. He became second chairman of the antitrust board of the General Free Trade Union Federation in Heidelberg. Later he was employed full-time at the Union of Railway Workers in Germany (GdED) in Heidelberg. Because of his communist activities he was expelled from the GdED in the 1950s.

MP

Before 1933 and from 1946 to 1951 Böning was a member of the Heidelberg city parliament. In 1946, as a representative of the trade unions, he was a member of the Provisional Representation of the People for Württemberg-Baden , which had an advisory role to the American occupying power and the state government and was replaced by the state constitutional assembly elected on July 30, 1946 .
