Franz Bartelt (* 7. October 1949 in the Eure , France) is a French writer and feature - a journalist .
biography
The Bartelt family, who came from Pomerania in what is now Poland, settled in the Eure department in France, where Franz Bartelt was born in 1949. At the age of four the family moved to the Ardennes , first to Boulzicourt and later to Charleville-Mézières . The area, which is literarily shaped by Arthur Rimbaud , inspired the boy, who learned to read with crime fiction literature and, as his mother reported, virtually “devoured” the crime fiction. He wrote his first literary texts at the age of 13, a year later he left school and kept himself above water with casual work. At the age of 19 he started to work in a paper mill in Givet .
In 1980 he settled in Nouzonville and devoted himself increasingly to writing. He worked in shift work for over five years and wrote two works per year at the same time, which he did not publish.
He has been writing for a living since 1985. He works as a poet , novelist , dramaturge and columnist and has since written eight radio plays for the radio ( France Culture ).
In 1995 he was certain of his destiny as a writer and published novels that were critically acclaimed and nominated for literary prizes. For Les Bottes Rouges ( Gallimard ) he was awarded the Grand Prix de l'humour noir in 2000, for Le Bar des habitudes (Gallimard) he received the Prix Goncourt de la nouvelle in 2006 . In 2011 one of his books ( Je ne sais pas parler ) was translated into German by Hainer Kober for the first time : I cannot speak . In 2018 the Roman Hôtel du Grand Cerf was awarded the Prix Mystère de la critique .
