Franz Burgstaller

Franz Burgstaller (born June 19, 1915 in Tumeltsham ; † May 27, 1999 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and civil servant. From 1966 to 1979 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and deputy mayor of Braunau am Inn .

education and profession

Burgstaller learned the trade of tailor after attending primary school. He volunteered in the Austrian Armed Forces in 1935 and served in the No. 8 Alpine Jäger Regiment. He was subsequently called up for military service in World War II and was wounded twice while serving at the front. He saw the end of the war with the rank of sergeant . In the military, Burgstaller made up his secondary school diploma and also graduated from Army Technical School I for non-technical administrative service and Army Technical School II for higher non-technical administrative service. After the end of the war, Burgstaller joined the Braunau am Inn district administration as a contract employee in 1945 and moved to the tax office in 1949, where he was employed as a specialist inspector and auditor.

Politics and functions

Burgstaller joined the Reichsbund in 1935 and was elected to the Braunau municipal council in 1945 as a representative of the ÖVP . From 1949 to 1951 he was a member of the community committee of Braunau am Inn and from 1961 to 1980 Vice Mayor of the city of Braunau. Within the party, he worked from 1959 to 1980 as city party chairman of the ÖVP-Braunau am Inn, from 1966 was also district chairman of the ÖVP-Braunau am Inn and was also involved in the Austrian workers 'and salaried workers' union, where he was local chairman in Braunau and from 1958 to 1974 1969 to 1980 worked as district chairman. Between March 29, 1966 and October 24, 1979 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament. After his active political career, Burgstaller was district chairman of the senior citizens' association of the Braunau am Inn district.

Private

Burgstaller married Elisabeth Kreilinger's daughter, a railroader's daughter, in 1939, with whom he had three sons and two daughters. He was active in shooting sports and was chief rifle master in the Braunau rifle group.
