Franz Escher (doctor)

Franz Escher (born March 10, 1921 in Münsingen ; † 1990 ) was a Swiss physician .

Life

Escher graduated from high school in Zurich and studied medicine at the universities of Neuchâtel and Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1937. In 1948 he received his habilitation for ear, nose and throat medicine at the University of Bern , in 1948 he was appointed associate professor and in 1957 full professor. He was director of the Otorhinolaryngological Clinic and from 1965 to 1967 Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern. In 1977 he retired. He specialized in the removal of the pituitary gland .

The Franz Escher Medal , a prize from the Swiss Society for Otorhinolarygology, Neck and Facial Surgery , and the Escher Hirt Syndrome are named after him.
