From 1981 to 2009 he held the chair for orthodontics and orthodontics at the University of Ulm .

activity

Sander was born in Gelsenkirchen as the son of a railway employee and a landlady. After graduating from high school, he studied physics and dentistry at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn . After graduating from the Institute for Radiation and Nuclear Physics under Theo Mayer-Kuckuk with a degree in physics in 1972 and his license to practice as a dentist in 1973, he started his orthodontic training at the Orthodontic Polyclinic, which he completed in 1977. The doctorate took place in 1974 (“The importance of test bodies for assessing the time of use of orthodontic appliances”), the habilitation in 1979 (“On the question of the biomechanics of the activator - development and testing of new examination methods”); Franz Günter Sander was in charge of one of the X-ray departments at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelm University.

Sander is considered one of the leading orthodontists of his time. His knowledge in three different subject areas earned him an international reputation as a university lecturer. He received four appointments to full chairs for orthodontics in Germany: Ulm 1981, Homburg 1981, Kiel 1982, Bonn 1991. He was also an honorary member of the Turkish Society for Orthodontics, cooperation partner of many universities (such as Athens, Naples, São Paulo, Vienna, Basel , Munich) and head of the annual FEM workshop in Ulm.

developments

Sander is the developer of the Pearls & Dents toothpaste. He also developed various orthodontic devices , such as B. the elastic oral vestibule , the spring activator (SI apparatus), the double feed plate (S-II device), the double push back plate ( S-III device), the Mobil Lock bracket (the first self-alloying bracket with a variable slot), the righting spring, the memory maker, the derotator, the hybrid retractor, the late leveler, the torque segment arch, the compound palatal arch , the asymmetrical headgear with sliding neck strap and the torque wrench.

In the course of his career, Sander published nearly 200 national and international publications, including numerous book chapters. In 2011 he published his textbook "Kieferorthopädie" (co-editors: Norbert Schwenzer and Michael Ehrenfeld) in the series of textbooks for training and further education in dental, oral and maxillofacial medicine at Georg Thieme Verlag .
