from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Höfler (born September 26, 1933 in Lana , South Tyrol ; † November 22, 1961 in Bozen ) was a South Tyrol activist in the 1960s and the first chief hunter of the Lana rifle company in the burgrave office, which was re-established in 1958 .

Höfler was born on the Ballguthof. He still had three brothers: Karl, Alois and Georg, of whom only Karl lives today. He joined the South Tyrol Liberation Committee around Sepp Kerschbaumer . He was arrested after the night of fire on July 15, 1961 and initially taken to the Merano district prison, where he said he was tortured (in a letter dated September 26). He was later taken to the Bolzano prison with other companions and died at the age of only 28 under circumstances that have not yet been clarified. On November 17th, he was admitted to a sick cell in the Bolzano hospital because of paralysis .

At Höfler's funeral on November 29, 1961 in Lana, there were around 10,000-15,000 mourners.

A street in Lana has been named after him since 1984, as has the rifle company.
