Frans Helfferich

Franz Helfferich ( Franciscus Willem Helfferich , born September 2, 1871 in The Hague ; † November 6, 1941 ibid) was a Dutch impressionist painter .

Helfferich studied at the Royal Art Academy in The Hague . He spent most of his life in The Hague, only between 1896 and 1900 he worked in Delft .

In the beginning Helfferich mainly worked in the style of the Hague School and mostly painted landscapes in plein-air . He was strongly influenced by the Dutch impressionist Jacob Maris , whose works he also copied.

Helfferich was a member of the Haagse Kunstkring (Hague Art Circle) founded in 1891 and taught for many years at the Art Academy in The Hague. His students included u. a. Piet Bekker, Korn Lodder, Cornelis Jan Mension, Carl C. van Niekerk, Hendrik Schaap, Huibert Schallenberg and Carel Schipper.

The art critic of his time had big problems with his “wild” style and his unconventional coloring. Helfferich died in 1941 at the age of 70.
