Plexiphones is a German electro rock band from Viersen and Mönchengladbach that is under contract with the German independent label Echozone .

history

Founding members of the Plexiphones are Patrick Schmitz, Michael von Hehl, Achim Wehrmann and Wolfgang Kemmerling. The fifth member of the band was Frank Mevissen, who was involved in several sessions with different musicians and who joined the band in November 2005. The first guitarist was Enzo Faller, who was replaced by Christoph Brandenburg in July 2006.

The first concert of the Plexiphones took place on October 6, 2006 in the town hall in Erkelenz as the opening act for the cover band Monte Video, which is known in Germany and especially in the Netherlands . The plexiphones, along with bands like Waltari and Volbeat, were part of the 2007 line-up of the Eier-mit-Speck Festival in Viersen. Together with the producer team Kurt Schmidt ( Wallenstein , Twelve Drummers Drumming , Dead Guitars ) and Peter Körfer, the debut album News from the Colonies was created in 2011 .

On February 5, 2011, they played in Wetzlar, Hesse, together with the London band Ruff As Stone, which includes guitarist Tom E Morrison ( Bliss ), drummer Tobias Künzel ( Die Prinzen ) and singer Austin Howard ( Ellis, Beggs & Howard ). On August 7th, 2011 the band played at the HORST Festival at Platz der Republik in Mönchengladbach. On the drums sat Charly T. Terstappen at this open-air gig, who, among other things, played drums with Marius Müller-Westernhagen for many years .

In November 2012, the London label Big Sky Song Records released the remix EP The London Tapes worldwide. The EP contains four songs from the album News from the Colonies , some of which were newly produced and mastered by British sound engineer Andrew Jackson . Jackson was previously active for Pink Floyd / David Gilmour . On November 2, 2012, the Plexiphones presented the remix EP to their English audience at the London live club The Music Palace in Crouch End.

Also in November 2012, the Berlin dance label Flicker Rhythm released three house versions of the Plexiphones song Plastic Love ("The Electric Remixes"). The remixes were produced and mixed by the following DJs: Chris Robin & Saalbach, Gian Luca De Gennaro and Willi Schuhmacher. The German fashion label s.Oliver selected the Plexiphones song Hideaway for its hit compilation Celebrate and released the sampler in December 2012.

On January 1, 2013, a radio interview with Plexiphones singer Wolfgang Kemmerling was conducted on the London broadcaster LGR 103.3 FM as part of the "Catch Kat's Live Radio Show Young & Connected - Scandalous!" sent. In April 2014 further concerts with the British 80's band "Blue Zoo" in London (O2 Academy Islington) and in Oxford (The Art Bar / Bullingdon) were on the program.

Together with SASH! In 2014, the Plexiphones released the song Can't Change you , which entered the German DJ playlist charts at number 59 on March 24, 2014.

The video documentary “Plexiphones live at the Water Rats” shows the band on their concert tour to London in 2014 and their appearance at the music club The Water Rats. On June 27, 2015, the Plexiphones supported the American band ZZTop at their concert in the KönigPalast in Krefeld.

In 2016, the band released their second album Electric on Big Sky Song Records / Echozone , which entered the German independent charts and placed in the top 10.

In August 2017, the Plexiphones appeared as the opening act for the 80s band Alphaville as part of the Summer Music event series .

In 2019 her album Break in the Clouds was released on the Echozone label.
