Franz Himmer
Franz Himmer (born May 12, 1828 in Rausenbruck near Znaim , South Moravia; † December 14, 1899 in Himmelsthür near Hildesheim ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ), theater actor and singing teacher .
Life
Franz grew up as the son of a wine grower, as a pupil of the Benedictine-run Schottengymnasium he studied singing. He was a choirboy with the Scots in the first district of Vienna. After his choir activities, he made his debut as a soloist at the Vienna Court Opera in 1849 and worked as a hero tenor at the court theaters in Dresden , Braunschweig , Darmstadt , Hamburg and other stages. Abroad he was best known as the first Wagner singer in the USA, where he worked from 1863 to 1870.
In 1887 he retired and then worked as a singing teacher . He was a member of the Braunschweig Freemason Lodge Carl zum Crowned Pillar .
From 1861 he was married to the singer Marie Friederici .
