Franz Hladnik (from the communications of the historical association for Krain , 1849)

Franz von Paula Hladnik , also Franc de Paula Hladnik , (born March 29, 1773 in Idria , † November 25, 1844 in Laibach ) was a Slovenian-Habsburg, k. k. Austrian botanist and teacher. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Hladnik ".

After studying philosophy and theology, he became a priest in 1796. Because of poor health, he gave up his priesthood and devoted himself to teaching. He later founded the Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana (Laibach) in 1810 .
