Franz Josef Wachter

Franz Josef Wachter (born April 14, 1867 in Schruns ; † February 7, 1951 ) was an Austrian politician (Bauernbündler party), innkeeper and farmer. He was the mayor of Schruns and from 1919 to 1923 a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

Franz Josef Wachter was the son of the farmer Jakob Wachter (1818-1894) and his wife Anna Maria Franziska Durig (1825-1887). He married Regina Anna Vallaster (1867–1953), who came from St. Gallenkirch , in Schruns on April 23, 1895 and was father of a son in 1896 and a daughter in 1901.

Wachter attended elementary school in Tschagguns and then worked on his parents' farm. He completed his military service with the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger from 1888 to 1891 and was deployed as platoon leader for the castle guard in Vienna. He then ran the Adler inn in Tschagguns and also worked as an independent farmer in Schruns. Politically he was active as a member of the independent Bauernbündler party, where he became a member of the Schruns community committee in 1919 and between 1919 and 1938 he held the office of Schruns community leader. From 1919 to 1938 he was also the representative of the Montafon class and chairman of the Schruns consumer association. As a member of the Bludenz constituency from June 17, 1919 to November 5, 1923, he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament.
