Franz Joseph Werfer (born December 17, 1778 in Ellwangen ; † June 1, 1823 ) was a doctor and author of the medical topography of the imperial city of Gmünd.

Life

Werfer received his doctorate in medicine in Landshut in 1805. When he wrote his medical topography, he was the second city doctor in Schwäbisch Gmünd (since 1806). In 1814 he was transferred to Neresheim . From 1817 he officiated as senior medical officer in Ellwangen.

He had been married to Christoph von Schmid's sister Therese from 1806 . His son was the clergyman and writer Albert Josef Benedikt Werfer .

His work, published in Gmünd in 1813, is a remarkably early testimony to the medical description of the country.
