Franz Kälin (born February 24, 1939 in Einsiedeln ) is a former Swiss cross-country skier . He started while playing for SC Einsiedeln and took part in the Winter Olympics for Switzerland in 1964 and 1968 .

Career

Kälin qualified for the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and was nominated for the Winter Games by the Swiss Olympic Committee. He was allowed to start in the individual races over the 15 and 50 kilometers as well as in the relay. After finishing 32nd in the 15-kilometer race, he finished the 50-kilometer race in 29th place, which would remain his best Olympic result in a single race. Together with Konrad Hischier , Alois Kälin and Hans-Sigfrid Oberer , he formed the relay. The quartet finished the race in ninth place.

He took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1966 at Holmenkollen in Oslo and competed in all three individual competitions. While he did not finish the competition over the 50 kilometers, he finished 41st over the 15 kilometers and 43rd over the 30 kilometers. At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , he started only over the 50 kilometers and finished 37th.
