Franz Köhl (* 1886 in Neu-Ulm , † 1976 in Erlangen ) was a captain in the German colony of South West Africa during the First World War .

In his honor , a tower ( 49 ° 33 '  N , 11 ° 3'  E ) was named on the former military training area in the Tennenlohe Forest , part of the Sebalder Reichswald . The Franz-Köhl-Turm was built in 1936 and was used by the Wehrmacht to monitor target practice on Dornberg and Gründlacher Berg. The tower is about seven meters high and made of sandstone. The ladder has now been removed so that it is no longer possible to climb it.
