Franz Karl August Boguslaw von Karczewsky (born August 15, 1820 in Memel , † November 15, 1884 in Berlin ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently director of the military-economic department in the war ministry.

His parents were the lieutenant colonel a. D. Franz Xaver von Karczewsky (* March 9, 1783; † November 18, 1819) and his wife Karoline Sophie Auguste Holsche (* 1797; † October 14, 1866).

Life

He first attended the community school and later the division school in Königsberg in Prussia . On November 18, 1837 as a fusilier in the 3rd Infantry Regiment. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on May 10, 1838 and to Seconde Lieutenant on August 17, 1840. From March 8, 1843 to March 31, 1848 he was posted to the 3rd Landwehr Regiment, where he was adjutant and accounting officer in the 1st battalion in Insterburg . After his return he became adjutant of the 1st Infantry Brigade on February 8, 1851 and adjutant of the 1st Landwehr Brigade on April 10, 1852, on May 4, 1852 he was again an adjutant of the 1st Infantry Brigade and on June 22, 1852 left transferred to his position as Premier-Lieutenant in the 4th Infantry Regiment. On October 23, 1856 he was released from his position and aggregated as a captain in the 1st Infantry Regiment , but assigned to the Army Department of the War Ministry. On May 23, 1854, he was transferred to the War Ministry. There he was promoted to major on July 1, 1860 and awarded the Austrian Order of the Iron Crown 3rd class on February 23, 1865 . Promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 18, 1865, he was appointed chief of the 1st Department of Army Affairs on May 31, 1866. On October 4, 1866, he received the Crown Order, 2nd class, and on April 18, 1867, he was promoted to colonel.

In addition, he received the Commander's Cross of the Saxon Albrecht Order on April 30, 1867, the Commander's Cross 2nd Class of the Baden Order of the Zähringer Löwen on February 27, 1868, the Commander 's Cross of the Württemberg Crown Order on March 19, 1868 , on February 26 , 1868 . On January 23, 1872 he received the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Hessian Order of Merit Philip the Magnanimous , on May 4, 1872 the Grand Cross of the Saxon Order of Albrecht , on May 16, 1873 the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus 1st Class as well on November 26, 1874 the Grand Cross of the Württemberg Order of Frederick .

He died on November 15, 1884 in Berlin and was buried on November 19, 1884 in the French cemetery .

Karczewsky married Claire Marie Dauphine Gutschmidt (* October 28, 1831 - April 5, 1919) in Berlin on September 18, 1883, a daughter of the Privy Councilor of Justice Johann Adolf Gutschmidt.
