Franz Katzengruber

Franz Katzengruber (born December 11, 1901 in Neumarkt an der Ybbs , † June 9, 1994 in Dornbirn ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Katzengruber was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1945 to 1953 , a member of the Austrian National Council from 1953 to 1966 and chairman of the SPÖ Vorarlberg from 1961 to 1966 .

Live and act

Born in Lower Austria, Franz Katzengruber first learned the profession of driver before he came to Vorarlberg in 1921 and settled in Dornbirn in 1926. In Vorarlberg, Katzengruber became chairman of the union of food and luxury goods workers as early as 1927, which he remained until 1934. During the civil war in 1934 Katzengruber was head of the SPÖ-affiliated Republican Protection Association in Dornbirn . After the war, he was first elected deputy chairman of the state party and in 1945 he was elected vice mayor of the city of Dornbirn. Also in 1945, on December 11th, after the first free state election , Katzengruber was sworn in as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament . He resigned this mandate on October 25, 1953, after he had been re-elected in 1949. From July 9, 1953, Franz Katzengruber represented the SPÖ in the National Council, which is why he ceased his activities as Vice Mayor in 1955. In 1961 he was elected chairman of the SPÖ Vorarlberg, where he succeeded Josef Schoder . Due to the Fußach affair in 1964, however, he was forced to resign again in 1966. His successor as regional party leader was Roman Heinz . In the same year on March 30, his term of office as a member of the National Council ended.
