Franz Lechner (politician, 1883)

Franz Lechner (born April 5, 1883 in Neulengbach , † July 19, 1958 in Linz ) was an Austrian politician ( CS / ÖVP ) and businessman. He was mayor of the municipality of Windischgarsten and from 1934 to 1938 a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament .

education and profession

Lechner attended elementary school in Neulengbach and completed an apprenticeship in the grocery trade. He subsequently became managing director of the Kurtz general goods store in Sankt Gallen in Styria and later acquired the business. As a result, he also opened a branch in Windischgarsten.

Politics and functions

Lechner held numerous functions in the Chamber of Commerce, cooperatives and the Roman Catholic Church. He worked as the district chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in the Kirchdorf an der Krems district , was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Upper Austria and the district chairman of the Economic Association. He was also a board member of Sparkasse Windischgarsten, board member of ADEG Kremsmünster and board chairman of ADEG Liezen. In addition, he was involved as chairman of the Liezen large-scale purchasing cooperative. In the ecclesiastical field, he was active as chairman of the Windischgarsten parish council and as chairman of the dean of the Catholic men's movement. In addition, he was deputy chairman in the district school council of Kirchdorf an der Krems, chairman of the Windischgarsten-Spital electricity company and chairman of the Windischgarsten beautification and tourism association.

Lechner worked for the Christian Social Party as deputy mayor in Windischgarsten, where he was also mayor between 1919 and 1922 and between 1934 and 1942. From November 1, 1934 to March 18, 1938, during the period of Austro-Fascism, he was also a representative of trade and transport in the Upper Austrian state parliament. After the Second World War he joined the Austrian People's Party and in November 1945 was again mayor of Windischgarsten for around three weeks.

Private

In 1909 Lechner married the daughter of Camillio Kurtz, whose uncle Heinrich Kurtz was originally the owner of the general store bought by Lechner. Lechner had three children, and his son Camillio later took over the general store.
