Franz Lubojatzky

Franz Anton Lubojatzky , also under the pseudonym Franz Carion or Nikanor I , (* December 16, 1807 in Dresden ; † June 17, 1887 ibid) was a German writer of predominantly historical novels mostly on Saxon history .

Life

Lubojatzky learned the jewelery trade and worked as an actor in traveling theaters . However, he only found fulfillment in the writing of mostly historical novels, most of which he presented in large numbers every year from 1840 onwards. From 1845 he only worked as a freelance writer in his hometown of Dresden. In some cases he was very free to deal with the historically guaranteed facts, so that he was quickly forgotten shortly after his death. Typical of him are also some historical novels of the present , in which he devoted himself to topics of contemporary history. He also wrote a few minor plays and published stories and novels in several newspapers.

He achieved lasting fame in the Kingdom of Saxony primarily for the richly illustrated two-volume work Das goldenne Buch vom Vaterlande , which appeared in Löbau in 1859/60 .

His novel The old Dessau , published in 1867, was a basis for Karl May's Dessau humoresque .
