Franz Massinger

Franz Georg Massinger (born November 14, 1944 in Bad Wiessee ; † March 10, 2011 in Kitakyūshū ) was a German pianist and professor of piano at the Munich University of Music and Theater .

Life

Massinger received his training at the University of Music and Theater in Munich with Erik Then-Bergh and Hugo Steurer . Afterwards he had the opportunity to study with Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli for a long time . Since winning first prize in the Schumann Competition in Paris in 1971, he has played in the most important music centers in Europe (Italy, France, Holland), the USA, Australia, Russia, Israel and Japan. Well-known orchestras have invited him as soloists, such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic, RSO Berlin , Munich Philharmonic , Orchester de Paris , Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Israel Chamber Orchestra . Recordings are available on all German and many foreign radio stations, and he has also played repeatedly at festivals such as Dubrovnik, Maggio Musicale, Florence, the Berlin and Vienna Festival Weeks , and on the Prague Spring . His repertoire was broad, but his concerts focused on the works of Mozart and Schubert, whose sonatas he performed several times as a cycle. As a long-time duo partner of cellist Antonio Meneses , he devoted himself intensively to chamber music. He also played regularly with the violinists Salvatore Accardo , Liane Issakadse, Eduard Wulfsohn and the cellist Thomas Demenga .
