Franz Mattausch (actor)
Franz Mattausch (* 1767 in Prague ; † June 28, 1833 in Schöneberg near Berlin ) was a German theater actor .
Life
Mattausch made his debut in 1784 as "Carl" in Der deutsche Hausvater in Bayreuth or Prague. In 1789 he came to the Berlin National Theater, where he appeared in the role of "Don Carlos" in Friedrich Schiller 's drama of the same name in Berlin. Under the direction of the director August Wilhelm Iffland he developed from 1796 to 1814 into one of the most respected members of the ensemble.
He played very different roles in more than 130 plays under Iffland's direction. In Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's play Iphigenie auf Tauris he played the role of "Orestes" (premiere: December 27, 1802). He played the title role in August von Kotzebue's play Count Benjowsky or the Conspiracy on Kamchatka (premiere: January 29, 1798). In Schiller's drama Wallenstein's Death he played the role of "Max Piccolomini". In the role of "Count Dunois" in Schiller's Jungfrau von Orleans , he appeared on the Berlin stage almost 60 times. The review writes about his acting performance of "Götz" in Goethe's play Götz von Berlichingen with the iron hand :
“Herr Mattausch gave the Götz and gave it with dignified worth, with full salary, not too young, too strong, too carried away; with calm strength, a deep feeling for justice and tenderness and the real customs of his age. "
Mattausch ended his acting career in 1827, and died in 1833 in Schöneberg near Berlin.
