Markas Luckis
Markas Luckis (later Marcos Luckis ; born January 17, 1905 in Pskow , † February 9, 1973 in Buenos Aires ) was an initially Lithuanian , later Argentine chess player.
Luckis won the championship of the city of Kaunas , the then Lithuanian capital , in 1927 and 1928 . He took part in the 1931 , 1933 , 1935 , 1937 and 1939 Chess Olympiads with Lithuania , as well as the 1936 Chess Olympics, the unofficial Chess Olympics. He achieved the third best result of the reserve players in 1935, the second best in 1936 and the third best result on the fourth board in 1937.
After the Chess Olympiad in 1939, Luckis lived in Argentina and was named Marcos Luckis . In 1941 he won the Torneo Mayor , the qualifying tournament for the match for the Argentine championship . Since Luckis was not an Argentine citizen at the time (like the runner-up Herman Pilnik ), the third-placed Héctor Rossetto qualified for this match.
