Héctor Decio Rossetto (born September 8, 1922 in Bahía Blanca , † January 23, 2009 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine chess master .

Life

Héctor Rossetto became International Master in 1950 and Grand Master of FIDE in 1960 . He won the Argentine championship five times : in 1941, 1944, 1947, 1961 and 1972. His international career began in 1944 at the Mar del Plata tournament , where he finished fourth. He won tournaments in Rio de Janeiro in 1952, Barcelona in 1952, Tarragona in 1952 and Montevideo in 1976. In 1958 he qualified for the interzonal tournament . Rossetto represented Argentina at the Chess Olympiads in 1950 , 1952 , 1954 , 1962 , 1968 and 1972 . In 1950, 1952 and 1954 he won silver with the Argentine team, and bronze in 1962. He had his best individual result in 1952 with a gold medal on the reserve board, in 1950 he achieved the third best result on the fourth board.

After Miguel Najdorf with Erich Eliskases , Herman Pilnik , Carlos Guimard , Julio Bolbochán , and the young Oscar Panno, Rossetto was part of the golden age of chess in Argentina.

After Andor Lilienthal , Wassili Smyslow and Juri Awerbach, he was the fourth oldest grandmaster in the world.
