Carlos Enrique Guimard (born April 6, 1913 in Santiago del Estero ; † September 11, 1998 ) was an Argentine chess grandmaster.
Carlos Guimard was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1950 and the title of Grand Master in 1960 . He won the championship of Argentina in 1937, 1938 and 1941. He was a member of the Argentine team at the 1937 , 1939 , 1950 and 1954 Chess Olympiads . In 1950 and 1954 he won silver with the Argentine team. In 1937 he was second best in the individual ranking on the fourth board.
The answer 3.… Nb8 – c6 to the Tarrasch variant of the French defense is named after him. Guimard's last Elo rating was 2325, he had his highest Elo rating of 2410 1971. Before the introduction of Elo ratings Guimard had its highest in April 1939 historical Elo rating of the 2647th
