Raúl Sanguineti (born February 2, 1933 in Paraná , † August 6, 2000 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine chess player .

Life

Sanguineti won the Argentine chess championship in 1956, 1957, 1962, 1965, 1968, 1973 and 1974 . He took part in seven Chess Olympiads for Argentina between 1956 and 1976 , with a total of +46 = 42 −7 points. In Moscow 1956 (1st reserve board) and Warna 1962 (4th board) he won an individual gold medal each, which was awarded for the highest percentage of points on a particular board. With his team he won bronze medals for Argentina at the Chess Olympiads in Munich in 1958 and in Varna in 1962. He also won the Pan-American Team Championship with Argentina in 1971 and also achieved the best individual result on the third board. He played twice at the interzonal tournament : in 1958 in Portorož he came in 14th place, in 1976 in Biel on 16th place.

Sanguineti was named International Master by the World Chess Federation FIDE in 1957 and Honorary Grand Master in 1982 . Before the introduction of the Elo numbers , it achieved its best historical Elo number of 2677 in January 1965. At this point in time, it was in 18th place in the subsequently calculated world rankings.
