Anton Kovalyov (born March 4, 1992 in Kharkiv ) is a Ukrainian chess player who played for the Argentine Chess Federation until 2013 and has been eligible to play for the Canadian Federation since then.
He played for Argentina at the 2008 Chess Olympiad and for Canada at the 2014 and 2016 Chess Olympiad .
In the 2015 World Chess Cup he defeated Rustam Kasimjanov in the first round, Sandro Mareco in the second round and was eliminated by Fabiano Caruana in the third round . In the 2017 World Chess Cup he defeated Varuzhan Akobian in the first round and Viswanathan Anand in the second . After a dispute with the functionary Zurab Asmaiparashvili , in which a statement by Asmaiparashvili was perceived as racist by Kovalyov, he did not play against Maxim Rodshtein .
In Spain he played for the CA Equigoma-Casa Social Católica , in the United States Chess League he played for the Rio Grande Ospreys in 2014 and 2015 .
