Peter Biyiasas (born November 19, 1950 in Athens ) is a Canadian-American chess master .

Peter Biyiasas grew up in Vancouver . In 1972 he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of British Columbia . In the same year he first won the Canadian Championship , at the same time zone tournament . In the interzonal tournament Petrópolis 1973 he reached 15th place in 1975 he qualified again, in the interzonal tournament Manila 1976 he was 17th Biyiasas took part with Canada in the chess Olympiads 1972 , 1974 , 1976 and 1978 , in 1972 he achieved the third best result on board 4, In 1976 the third best result on the top board and in 1978 the second best individual result on board 2. In 1972 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master and in 1978 the title of Grand Master . Since 1980 he has been registered for the United States Chess Federation . In 1981 he played a series of 17 blitz games against Bobby Fischer , who had been inactive for years at that time and who was his guest, all of which Biyiasas lost. In the mid-1980s he retired from tournament chess and has worked as a programmer ever since.

Biyiasas was temporarily married to the American chess player and official Ruth Haring .
