Eugene Perelshteyn

Eugene Perelshteyn (* as Evgeni Michailowitsch Perelschtein ( Russian Евгений Михайлович Перельштейн ) on February 2, 1980 in Zhytomyr , Ukrainian SSR ) is an American chess grandmaster of Soviet-Ukrainian origin.

Life

Perelshteyn began playing chess at the age of seven and took part in tournaments for the first time at the age of ten. His father, Mikhail Perelshteyn (* 1956), is a FIDE master and chess trainer . In 1994 they emigrated to the USA. Eugene Perelshteyn became a student of Roman Dzindzichashvili and also worked with Aleksander Wojtkiewicz . Perelshteyn took part in youth world championships in different age groups: 1996 (U16, 17th place), 1997 (U18, 10th place), 1998 (U18, 22nd place), 1999 (U20, 12th place) and 2000 (U20, 31st place). In 1997 Eugene Perelshteyn achieved the title of FIDE Master and in 2001 that of International Master . In 2000 he won the US Junior Championship with 7 points from 9 games and in 2001 received the Samford Chess Fellowship , a scholarship for young chess talents. In 2003 he won the New York Generation tournament ( category 10) and achieved a grandmaster standard with 6.5 points from 9 games. After two years as a professional chess player, he resumed his computer science studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County , graduating in 2004. He then worked as a technical support engineer at Symantec .

He also remained active as a chess player. The last required grandmaster norm he reached in 2006 with his shared 1st place at the Foxwoods Open . In 2007 he won the SPICE Cup in Lubbock (category 12) with 6.5 points from 9 games , came 4th at the 2008 state championship in Tulsa , and in 2009 he won the B group of the SPICE Cup (category 10) Ranking ahead of Vinay Bhat and Ben Finegold ), took 2nd place at the 49th Canadian Open 2012 and shared 1st place at the Golden State Open 2016.

In the United States Chess League he played for the Boston Blitz team from 2005 to 2015 and scored 20.5 points from 34 games.

He achieved his best Elo rating of 2555 in July 2008.

Chess author and trainer

Together with Lev Alburt and Roman Dzindzichashvili, he wrote two books on chess openings : Chess Openings for Black, Explained: A Complete Repertoire (2005, 2nd edition 2009, ISBN 978-1-889323-18-3 ) and Chess Openings for White, Explained : Winning with 1. e4 (2006, 2nd edition 2010, ISBN 978-1-889323-20-6 ). He operates a paid website, ChessOpeningsExplained.com, on which he offers the books for download in PGN format and provides updates. He is considered an expert in the accelerated dragon variant . He also offers instructional videos on the ichess.net website and, since August 2015, a paid mobile app Chess Genie with tactical tasks on Google Play .
