Lev Ossipowitsch Alburt ( Russian Лев Осипович Альбурт ; born August 21, 1945 in Tschkalow , Soviet Union ) is a chess player (Soviet Union, United States ) and author.

Life

Lew Alburt was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1976 , then the title of Grand Master in 1977 . Before a European Cup game against the Solingen SG in 1868 , he asked the Israeli embassy in Bonn for political asylum. In 2004 he received the title of FIDE Senior Trainer . Alburt is listed as inactive by FIDE because he has not played an Elo-rated game since the Razuvayev Memorial held in August 2013 in Rockville, Maryland .

Lew Alburt is also the author of numerous chess books.

With the United States team, Alburt took part in the 1980 , 1982 and 1984 Chess Olympiads and reached third place with the team in 1982 and 1984.

In the 1970s Alburt played for the Burewestnik team and won the Soviet club championship in 1976 and the European Club Cup in 1976 and 1979.
