John Peter Fedorowicz (born September 27, 1958 in the Bronx, New York ) is an American chess master.

Life

As a 13-year-old Fedorowicz learned the rules of chess , inspired by the 1972 World Championship match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spasski . In his youth, he achieved an exceptionally rapid development in the game: in 1977 he was divided US youth champion, in 1978 sole winner. In 1978 he became an international master . In 1980 he won the US Open (shared with Florin Gheorghiu ). In 1984 he was third in the US championship and in 1984/85 in the traditional Hastings tournament second. At the Dortmund Schachtagen 1986 he reached a shared 2nd to 4th place behind Zoltán Ribli , who won the tournament. This year, he was awarded FIDE the Grandmaster title .

Fedorowicz won the World Open in Philadelphia four times , the New York Open in 1989 , in 1987 in Cannes and Sesimbra and in 1990 in Wijk aan Zee .

Fedorowicz was Sekundant of Gata Kamsky in his FIDE world championship match in 1996 in Elista against Anatoly Karpov .

He is a respected live commentator for the largest internet chess club in the world, the US Internet Chess Club , and the author of numerous articles and books.

Team chess

Fedorowicz took part with the United States team in the 1986 chess Olympiads in Dubai and 1990 in Novi Sad , where he came third in 1986 and second in 1990. He was also part of the US selection at the 1989 World Team Championship in Lucerne .

In the United States Chess League , Fedorowicz played from 2008 to 2011 for the New York Knights team , with which he became champions in 2009 and 2011 . Fedorowicz played in the 1988/89 season for SG Porz in the German Federal Chess League .
