Irina Krush ( Ukrainian Ірина Круш ; born December 24, 1983 in Odessa ) is an American chess player .

Life

Irina Krush learned to play chess at the age of four. In 1989 her family moved to Brooklyn , where she was trained by Mikhail Trosman between the ages of 9 and 14. She graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn. In 1999 she played a leading role in the analysis team in the Internet game Kasparov versus the World . She studied at New York University and in 2006 for a semester in Paris. She finished her studies with a degree in international relations . Krush is the author of chess instructional videos under the series name Krushing Attacks! . She was married to the Canadian grandmaster Pascal Charbonneau .

In 1998, when she was fourteen, she won the US Women's Championship , the second time she won the US Women's Championship in 2007 and the third time in 2010 in St. Louis . In 2012 she won her fourth title after a playoff against Anna Zatonskih and was able to defend it in 2013, 2014 and 2015. With the US women's national team, she took part in eight Chess Olympiads ( 1998 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 ), with her greatest success being the silver medal for the US team in Calvià in 2004 . In the Olympics she has a total of 59.5 points from 88 games (+45 = 29 −14). She also took part in the women's team championships in 2009 and 2013 and achieved the best individual result on the second board in 2013. During the Dortmund Chess Days 2006 Irina Krush played a duel with Elisabeth Pähtz , which she won with 3.5 to 2.5 points. From March 31st to April 3rd, 2008 she played a competition against the Armenian women's grandmaster and international champion Lilit Mkrtchjan , which she won with 2.5: 1.5 (+1 = 3 −0).

In the USA, Krush played for the New York Knights until 2013 (where she was also a team manager until 2011) and won the United States Chess League with them in 2009 and 2011 . In 2015 she played for the Manhattan Apple Sauce team and won the title with them. In the British Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) she played in the 2004/05 season for Guildford-A & DC , in France in the same season for the Club de Montpellier Echecs . In China she played for Shandong . In Belgium, Irina Krush is registered with Koninklijke Gentse Schaakkring Ruy Lopez and competed in three competitions for Ghent between 2009 and 2013.

She has held the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM) since November 2002 , but has been International Master (IM) since 2000. In June 2001, as well as March and September 2013, she achieved Grandmaster (GM) standards. She then received the title of Grand Master at the 84th FIDE Congress in October 2013. In February 2015 she is behind Anna Zatonskih in second place in the US women's rankings, as well as in 33rd place in the women's world rankings.
