Kayden Troff

Kayden William Troff (born May 6, 1998 in Murray , Utah ) is an American chess player .

Troff grew up as the second oldest of six children of the banker Dan and the housewife Kim near Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah. He taught himself to play chess. When Troff's skill level became clear, he was initially tutored by his father. Later chess lessons were taken over by several experienced coaches.

Troff was 2010 North American champion and runner-up respectively in the age group U12 and 2012 world champion in the age group U14. Troff received the title of FIDE Master 2011. In January 2013 he was named International Master on the condition that he achieved an Elo rating of at least 2400. He already achieved this in the next rating list in February 2013. Troff had the necessary standards for the awarding of the title in May 2011 in Los Angeles at the 5th Metropolitan Chess FIDE Invitational , in August 2012 at the 2nd Metropolitan Chess FIDE Intl at the same place and in October 2012 at the 2012 Spice Fall Swiss achieved in St. Louis . In March 2014, Troff was named Grand Master on condition that he achieved an Elo rating of at least 2500. At the 23rd Annual Chicago Open in Wheeling (Missouri) in May 2014, Troff meanwhile reached this mark. Although his published Elo rating was below 2500 in June 2014, he has held the grandmaster title ever since. Troff had reached the required standards in May 2013 at the USA Championship in St. Louis, in October 2013 at the Spice Cup Open in Clayton (Missouri) and in March 2014 at the UT Dallas Spring FIDE Open in Dallas . As of June 1, 2014, with an Elo rating of 2494 points, he was the player in the U16 age group with the highest rating on the American continent. In June 2014 Troff won the US Youth Championship with 7 points from 9 games. Kayden Troff's Elo number is 2482 (as of June 2017), his highest Elo number of 2556 he reached in May 2015. Troff plays in the United States Chess League in 2015 for the Las Vegas Desert Rats .
