Friedrich Leopold Weyland

Friedrich Leopold Weyland (born August 29, 1750 in Buchsweiler , Alsace , France ; † December 2, 1785 ibid) was a German doctor and student friend of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Strasbourg .

Life

He was the son of Georg Leopold Weyland (1715–1766) from Seckbach near Frankfurt am Main and Maria Salome Schulmeister (1725–1779) from Buchsweiler. His brother is Philipp Christian Weyland, who later became President of the Weimar Region .

On October 3, 1781, Weyland married in Kutzenhausen (Alsace) Louisa Sibylla Magdalena Aulber (* July 27, 1758, † April 17, 1837 in Mannheim ), educator of the King of Bavaria. The couple had a daughter Louise Caroline Jakobine Weyland (born August 29, 1782), married Couder, who died in Moscow .

Weyland completed his medical studies in Strasbourg in 1771 with his dissertation on Specimen inaugurale medicum de ozaena maxillari cum ulcere fistuloso ad angulum oculi internum complicata… . He then worked as a doctor in Frankfurt , and finally as gräflich Hanau light Bergischer or landgräflich Hessen-intestine Urban Councilor .

Weyland, whom his college friend Goethe calls an "important childhood friend" in his memoirs, aroused Goethe's interest in medicine. During a joint ride to Sessenheim , 40 kilometers away , on October 13, 1770, Weyland introduced the young Goethe to the local pastor family Brion and the 18-year-old daughter Friederike Brion , with whom Goethe spontaneously fell in love. Weyland was related to the pastor family Brion and is said to have fallen out with Goethe later because of his love affair with Friederike. Goethe et al.
