Rubén Felgaer (born April 4, 1981 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine chess player .

Life

He has held the title of Grand Master since 2002 . He was trained by Óscar Panno . Felgaer won the Pan-American U20 Junior Championship twice (2000 and 2001). He won the Argentine individual championship in Pinamar in 2001 , in Mendoza in 2007 (held in 2008), in La Plata in 2008 , in Buenos Aires in 2010 and in Resistencia in 2014 .

In 2002 he won the Politiken Cup in Copenhagen . He won many chess tournaments in South America (mainly Argentina and Brazil) and Europe (mainly Spain). He played club chess in 2006 and 2007 in the Spanish División de Honor (for Unio Gracienca d'escacs - UGA ) and occasionally in the Catalan championship.

At the Junior World Team Championship in Buenos Aires in 2000, he won the gold medal with the Argentine national team on the first board and also an individual gold medal for his result of 5 points from 5 games. He took part in Chess Olympiads seven times for Argentina ( 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 ). He was the captain of the Argentina national team at the 2018 Chess Olympiad . At the 2004 World Cup in Tripoli , he eliminated Baadur Dschobawa in the first round , but failed in the second round to Alexei Drejew . Felgaer took part in the World Chess Cup three times ( 2005 , 2011 and 2013 ) and failed each time in the second round.

He had topped the Argentine Elo list in 2008. His best rating was 2624 in October 2005; at that time he was ranked 86th in the FIDE world rankings.
