Miguel Ángel Quinteros (born December 28, 1947 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine chess master .
Life
Miguel Quinteros has been playing chess since he was seven. He won his first major title in 1966 when he became Argentine national champion (he was able to repeat this in 1980). In 1970 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master and in 1973 the title of Grand Master . He was one of the leading players in Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s. He took part in interzonal tournaments four times : 1973 in Leningrad , 1976 in Manila , 1982 in Moscow and 1985 in Biel .
In international tournaments , he won a number of successes, including: Niš (1970, 1st place), Olot (1971, shared second place), São Paulo (1972, tied for first), Wijk aan Zee (1973, B-tournament 1.- 2.), Torremolinos (1973, 1. – 2., Shared with Pál Benkő ), Ljubljana (1973, 2. – 4.), Arrecife (1974, 1.), Lanzarote (1974, 1.), Torremolinos (1975 , 1. – 2.), Fortaleza (1975, 2.), Caracas (1976, 1.), São Paulo (1977, 2.), London (1977, 2. – 4.), Wellington (1978, 1. ), Jakarta (1978, 1st – 2nd), Morón (1982, 1st), Novi Sad (1982, 2nd – 3rd) and in Netanja (1983, 1st).
His friend Bobby Fischers , who was in friendly and chess-related contact with him even during Fischer's 20-year absence from chess, played simultaneous chess in Cape Town , Sun City and Johannesburg in 1987 and was then banned from FIDE for three years. Until apartheid was lifted in South Africa , FIDE sanctioned players who took part in tournaments in that country.
Quinteros' is listed as inactive at FIDE, as he has not played an Elo rated game since the III Copa Ciudad de Berazategui in April 2008 .

National team
Quinteros took part with Argentina in the Chess Olympiads in 1970 , 1974 , 1976 , 1980 , 1982 and 1984 , he achieved the second best individual result on the third board in 1976 in Haifa . He also took part in the 1985 World Team Championships and the 1971 and 1985 Pan-American Team Championships, which he won with Argentina.
