Franz Freiherr Mayr von Melnhof (Franz III. Or the younger , born November 11, 1854 in Leoben , † July 18, 1893 in Himberg ) was an Austrian industrialist.
Franz Mayr von Melnhof was the son of Franz Freiherr Mayr von Melnhof (1810–1889), who bequeathed most of his extensive real estate to him. He mined lignite in the Tollinggraben near Leoben and founded the wood pulp and cardboard factory in the Wannersdorf district of Frohnleiten in 1888 . This was the beginning of Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG, which is now the largest cardboard and folding box manufacturer in Europe.
