Franz Neuens

Franz (François) Neuens (born September 6, 1912 in Gonderingen , † April 24, 1985 in Wiltz ) was a Luxembourg road cyclist .

career

Franz Neuens took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin for the Luxembourg Olympic team . There, the 1.82 m tall and 76 kg heavy cyclist competed in both the team and individual road races, but did not make it into the medal ranks. After the games in Berlin, he began his professional career.

Neuens took part in the Tour de France three times in a row from 1937 to 1939 and in the Tour de Suisse several times . In both important stage races he reached the finish several times, but never near the top ranks and achieved his best placings in the overall ranking in 1938 with ranks 37 and 27 respectively. However, he scored in his last Tour de France - 1939 participate two sub-stage wins and a stage win at the Tour de Suisse 1938 .

He was able to achieve another major success in 1938 by winning the Tour du Lac Léman . In 1942 and 1943 he won the Tour of Luxembourg , which was also held as a one-day race , as a German citizen of Nazi Germany.

After his sporting career, Neuens took up a job in the state road construction industry.
