Franz Peherstorfer

Franz Peherstorfer (born July 26, 1950 in Zwettl an der Rodl , † November 27, 2009 in Linz ) was an Austrian mathematician and professor at the University of Linz .

After studying mathematics at the University of Linz, he received his doctorate in 1977 under Paul Otto Runck on the subject of linear and non-linear approximation . In 1985 he completed his habilitation at the University of Linz, where he was head of the department “Dynamic Systems and Approximation Theory” until his death.

In 1983 he received the advancement award of the Austrian Mathematical Society .

He is the author of over 100 papers and has dealt with orthogonal polynomials and approximation theory , among other things , where he has made many important and profound contributions. Among other things, he was editor of the Journal of Approximation Theory.
