Franz Pokorny (born March 21, 1874 in Schwelm ; † April 17, 1923 in Aplerbeck ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Live and act

After attending primary school , Pokorny worked as a miner from 1890. In the same year he became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Until 1897 he worked in all areas of mining, then until 1911 he was alternately secretary of the association of miners or editor of the association body. As part of his work for the miners' association, Pokorny was fined and jailed several times.

From 1911 to 1916 Pokorny worked as a departmental editor in the press office established by the leadership of the SPD in Düsseldorf. After moving this office to Berlin, Pokorny returned to the miners' association, for which he worked until at least 1919.

In January 1919 Pokorny was elected to the Weimar National Assembly as a candidate of the SPD for constituency 21 (Koblenz-Trier) , of which he was a member until the first Reichstag of the Weimar Republic convened in July 1920. He found his final resting place in the Wattenscheid- Höntrop cemetery .
