Franz Prettenthaler
Franz Prettenthaler (* 1972 ) is a social scientist and director of the Center for Climate, Energy and Society LIFE at Joanneum Research in Graz.
Career
Prettenthaler studied environmental systems science at the University of Graz, specializing in economics, and holds degrees in philosophy from the University of St Andrews and finance from the University of Cergy-Pontoise . His dissertation was on the dynamic consistency of individual and collective decisions under risk . Since 2002, Prettenthaler has been working at the Center for Economic and Innovation Research (formerly the Institute for Technology and Regional Policy) of Joanneum Research and headed the Graz office from 2005-06 / 2010, from 7/2010 to 2015 head of the regional policy, risk research group - and resource economics, since 2016 he has been director of the LIFE - Joanneum Research Center for Climate, Energy and Society.
Relevant work on the reform of the risk transfer system for natural hazards in Austria, he became known to the general public in 2009 through the idea of a transfer account.
