Franz Rudolf Jakob Rohr

Franz Rudolf Jakob Rohr (born August 19, 1831 in Bern ; † January 13, 1888 there ) was a Swiss engineer and politician . From 1875 to 1888 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Franz Rudolf Jakob Rohr was the son of the white tanner Franz Ludwig Rohr and Elisabeth Jenner . He studied natural sciences at the University of Bern from 1847 to 1849 and engineering at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic from 1851 to 1853 . In 1856 he married Anna Maria Sophie Leuch. From 1861 he was an engineer in Belp, in 1863 a forest geometer for the canton of Bern and in 1867 the first canton geometer. From 1872 to 1888 he was a councilor and from 1875 to 1888 a radical national councilor. As a government councilor, Rohr promoted the Gürbe and Jura water bodies and also campaigned in the National Council for water body corrections and road construction. After the railway scandal of 1877, he was re-elected as the only member of the government in 1879 thanks to his integrity and competence.
