Franz Schaffer (politician)

Franz Schaffer (born July 10, 1895 in Fohnsdorf , Styria , † February 16, 1969 in Judenburg , Styria) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Franz Schaffer only had a simple school education. After elementary school , he studied at an agricultural college and then began to work on his parents' farm.

Schaffer's political activity took place predominantly at the local level.

In 1924 he moved to the Fohnsdorf council as a Christian Social Member . Even in the period after the annexation of Austria , he belonged to this group for 36 years without interruption until 1960. Schaffer was also elected vice mayor for the first time in 1924. He remained so until 1934. From 1945 to 1946 he briefly took over the mayor's agendas on an interim basis, but after the first municipal council elections, in 1946, he was again only vice mayor. He stayed there until 1950. Schaffer experienced his third term of office as Fohnsdorf Vice Mayor from 1955 to 1960.

From December 1945 to November 1949 he represented Styria in the Federal Council in Vienna .
