Franz Schmelter

Joh. Franz Schmelter (born on January 18, 1862 in Essen ; died on December 10, 1924 in Heidelberg - Schlierbach , German Reich ) was a German theater and film actor as well as a director , screenwriter and film producer during the silent film era .

Life

Franz Schmelter had played theater in the German provinces since the 1880s, including commitments in 1886/87 in Würzburg , 1890 to 1892 in Elberfeld and 1894/95 in Chemnitz . Later he went to Berlin to film, where, shortly after the outbreak of World War I, he became a busy film director for five years. His specialty were comedies and comedies, which he directed for mostly small companies such as Luna-Film, Greenbaum-Film, Elga-Film, L'Arronge-Film or even his own company, Schmelter-Film. Schmelter was also involved in the associated scripts several times. None of these productions has any significance in terms of film history.
