Franz Schneider (photographer)

Franz Schneider (born January 1, 1898 in Lucerne ; † October 22, 1974 there ) was a Swiss photographer . He was a pioneer in color photography and landscape photography .

After his training he worked in Emil Goetz's photo shop. From 1930 to 1965 he ran a photography shop on Weggisgasse in Lucerne . In 1948 he founded an art and map publisher in Lucerne. He was the teacher of Peter Ammon , a Swiss photographer who, like Theo Frey , did a great job documenting rural life in Switzerland.

Until 1965, when he retired from professional life to Treiso d'Alba in Piedmont , he worked for various newspapers and picture magazines from home and abroad (e.g. Camera), calendar manufacturers and large print shops. Franz Schneider shaped the image of Switzerland abroad with his landscapes and postcard views of Lucerne and Central Switzerland. He died on October 22, 1974.
