Franz Steger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Steger , also Franz Steiger († after 1464 ) was provost of Berlin from 1442 to 1464.

Life

He came from Eger , as can be seen from his matriculation at the University of Leipzig from 1423. In 1440 the Bishop of Havelberg gave him a house on Klosterstrasse. Since 1442 Steger was named as provost of Berlin, also in documents of Berlin's indignation . In 1450, Elector Friedrich II of Brandenburg placed the provost under his protection and appointed Steger as rector capellae ( chairman ) of the newly consecrated Erasmus Chapel . In 1464 Steger was mentioned for the last time as provost of Berlin.
