Franz Winkler

Franz Winkler (born October 24, 1955 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian mathematician. He is Professor of Symbolic Computing at the Johannes Kepler University Linz , Deputy Head of the Institute for Symbolic Computing (RISC) and was dean of the Faculty of Science from 2013 to 2015 .

Life

From 1974 to 1979 Franz Winkler studied mathematics at the JKU. He then went to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy (New York) , New York (Graduate Studies in Mathematics and Computer Science) on a Fulbright Scholarship . During his studies he worked as a study assistant and as a teaching and research assistant. In 1984 he received his doctoratesub auspiciis ” in mathematics at the JKU and went to the University of Delaware , Newark , USA as Visiting Assistant Professor for two years . In 1986 he returned to the JKU, four years later he completed his habilitation in mathematics. In 1997 he was appointed associate professor. Since 1998 he has been a full university professor at the Institute for Symbolic Computing (RISC), which he also headed from 1999 to 2009. From October 1, 2013 to 2015, he was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
