Francis of Chelius

Franz Carl von Chelius (born September 6, 1821 in Heidelberg , † June 6, 1899 in Ahrweiler ) was a German surgeon.

Life

Franz Carl von Chelius was the son of the surgeon Maximilian Joseph von Chelius and his wife Anna Maria Freiin von Sensburg (1797–1867). Franz von Chelius married Marie Minet in 1850 (born March 14, 1830 in Mannheim; † January 31, 1896 in Heidelberg). They had a daughter Barbara Warinka Maria (Marinka) (1856-1949), who married Eberhard Friedrich Gustav Wilhelm von dem Bussche (1851-1937) in Dresden on June 12, 1875 and was a great-grandmother of Claus von Amsberg , Prince Consort of the Netherlands , as well as a son.

After attending grammar school in Heidelberg, he studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg from 1833–44 . After his habilitation in 1848 he became an assistant doctor and in 1852 a. Full professor at the University of Heidelberg, in 1857 he became a regular associate professor. From 1873 to 1877 he worked in Dresden. From 1877 he was head of a private clinic for surgery and gynecology in Heidelberg. In 1896 he retired to Ahrweiler due to illness.
