Fraser Island is a small island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located northeast of Halfway Island in Wylie Bay in the southwest of Anvers Island .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1998 after the ornithologist William R. Fraser of Montana State University , who had carried out studies on sea birds on the Antarctic Peninsula for over 20 years .
