The Roman Catholic subsidiary church Mariahilf on Frauenplatz in Bad Radkersburg in Styria is called the Frauenkirche . It is a listed building .

history

In 1496 a chapel was built on what was then Judenplatz, the site of a presumed former synagogue, which today forms the choir of the church. The new building of the nave took place according to the inscription on the main portal with Ruep. Kummer Bürger and Fischer zu Radkersburg 1643 in the tradition of a late Gothic hall church. Remains of the former cemetery can be seen on the south side of the church. From 1749 until the border was drawn on the Mur River in 1920 , services for the Slovene-speaking population were held in the Frauenkirche, which was also a garrison church . The church was restored outside in 1962 and 2006 and inside in 1967.

architecture

Interior of the Frauenkirche

On the three-aisled, four-bay nave with a ribbed vault on octagonal pillars, the one-bay choir closes with a five-eighth end and remnants of round services. The edges of the arched arcades, the front arch, the pillars and the vault are baroque stucco. A stately, square, four-storey tower with pilasters rises above the first yoke of the south aisle. In 1802 the multi-articulated onion helmet was put on with the builder Michael Schmidt. The four figures of saints in the corners of the top floor of the tower are labeled Johannes Prandner 1666 . The figures show the patron saint Sebastian against the plague, Florian against the fire, Urban for the wine and Johannes Evangelist against the hail. At the height of the third yoke, a rectangular chapel each is built to the north and south. The west facade has a triangular gable, below it in the central axis the main portal with a stone wall and split gable. The door leaves are made of enamelled sheet copper reliefs by Franz Weiss (1968). A stone pieta from the middle of the 17th century stands in a wall niche above the main portal. The north side shows the inscription 1643. Frescoes in the choir show an altar with a canopy, angels and symbols of the Eucharist. On the triumphal arch is Mary on clouds, painted by Matthias Schiffer around 1800 . Further scenes from Mary and St. Cäcilia above the organ gallery was painted in 1910.

There are tombstones from 1657, 1667, 1707, 1708 and 1757.

The entrance from the main square is a stuccoed, brick archway with a gable top and figures from the 4th quarter of the 17th century. It was restored in 1956 and 2006.

Furnishing

High altar

The high altar with tabernacle structure from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century stands in front of the frescoed background. The side figures Rochus and Sebastian are from 1775. The central statue of Maria with child is from 1829. The right side altar bears sculptures by the sculptor Johann Georg Straub, who moved from Württemberg , around 1755 and shows the altar sheet Maria with pain from the middle of the 19th century and the former altar sheet Klagenfurt miraculous image in a splendid frame. The left side altar as a rosary altar also from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century shows the altar sheet praying religious saints before Mary and in the essay Adoration of the Magi . The pulpit with the tablet of the Law by Moses was built around 1770/1780 and bears the symbol of the Holy Trinity on the sound cover. The figures of St. Florian and St. Johann Nepomuk, a Pieta and the cheeks of the church stalls are from the middle of the 18th century. The wrought iron communion grille shows the year 1754. The north side chapel has a Loretto altar built in 1908, the south side chapel a cross altar built until 1911.

The organ was built by Josef Brandl (1917).
