Alexander Gerber

Alexander Gerber (born April 26, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German information scientist , publicist and entrepreneur .

Live and act

He is a full professor and course director for science communication at the Rhein-Waal University and scientific director of the non-university institute for science and innovation communication (inscico). Gerber is an elected board member of the PCST world association and a member of several other scientific advisory boards such as the Bonn Science Shop or the DietBB network for nutritional research.

Gerber's research focuses on applied science and innovation communication. One focus is on a systemic view of the relationship between science and its stakeholders. Gerber, for example, is the author of the science communication trend study sponsored by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . Gerber argues that digital and collaborative media represent a new phase in science communication and present science with unresolved systemic challenges. Despite increasing sensitivity to the interests and concerns of the public, traditional science organizations continued to focus on “one-way communication, which is fed by well-staffed press offices at universities, institutes and companies”. While science organizations often stuck to the model of the Public Understanding of Science and Humanities (PUSH), a new paradigm of Open Science Communication has also been established in which Open Science , Citizen Science , science blogs and collaborative media play a key role.
